Back when Orange Lake had water shore to shore....

Oct 2004-
Buzz, our rat terrier :)

Once upon a time we could push out in our canoe or small motor boat right from the shore of the lake. There was a run (small canal) through ~ 1/2 mile of  marshy areas that led out to the open waters of the lake

Early am in Oct 2004

This was a couple months after Hurricane Charley--one good thing about hurricanes-they do replenish the water!

We liked to head out and watch the birds while skirting around the floating islands.

Jan of 2005-
Sunsets were beautiful from the lake...

You can see how it has become lower-

The neighbors dock is to the right!

Today water levels have been extremely low, rainfall way below average
and of course the need for water is everywhere.
It has been several years since the water has been high enough to go all the way out from our end of the lake- (The fish camps along the lake have maintained accesses to the lake that are dredged and kept clear of floating islands-although they had their times of extreme low levels as well)

It is beautiful place to live!

Interesting series - I do hope it refills soon though! At least the changes are great to photograph and I did enjoy them. My favourite is the one you shared on MoM. I like the contrast between Buzz and the vivid colours of the sunset.
Thank you for sharing on Mandarin Orange Monday:)
